2019 NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association All-Star Game Roster Announced
The NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches Association has just announced the roster for the 2019 NJCAA Men's Basketball Coaches All-Star Game presented by the NABC. A total of 24 players have been selected, 12 from Division I and six each from divisions II and III. The athletes have been invited to Las Vegas, N.V. for the annual event on May 18, tipping off at 4:30 p.m. at The Orleans Arena.
The Division I roster is filled with 11 NJCAA All-Americans. Notably, Chris Duarte from Northwest Florida State highlights the group. The University of Oregon commit was named the 2019 NJCAA Division I Men's Basketball Player of the Year. Duarte averaged 19 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game this season.
His is partnered with three other First Team All-American selections, Miles Thomas from Walters State, Gaige Prim from South Plains and Demarkus Lampley from Wallace State Community College-Hanceville.
Vincennes' Lony Francis Jr. represents the 2019 Division I National Championship squad on the 2019 team.
The rest of the Division I roster includes Malik Curry (Palm Beach State), Tevin Brewer (Coffeyville), David Sloan (John A. Logan), Alondes Williams (Triton), Kevin Norman (Angelina), Javonte Perkins (Southwestern Illinois) and Brandon Rachal (Pearl River).
Todd Franklin, head coach at Vincennes University, will lead the Division I group. This season, Franklin led the Trailblazers to a near perfect record of 34-2 and their first National Title since 1972.
For the Division II/III team, they are also complete with 11 out of 12 selections as All-Americans. Traiveyhon Mason (Highland), Sean McNeil (Sinclair), Rhyss Lewis (South Suburban) and Doug Wilson (Kirkwood) all earned First Team All-American status for Division II in 2019.
Of the Division III players, Steven Tynes (Suffolk County) Derrick Felder (Herkimer), Caleb Williams (Richland) and Chris Buckley (Central Lakes) received First Team All-American honors.
Wilson and Felder were their respective Division's Players of the Year. Both helped their teams to national championships this past March. Wilson finished the season with 22 points, 9.5 rebounds, three assists and two blocks per game. Felder recorded 15.3 points, 5.2 rebounds, 6.5 assists and 2.8 steals per game this season.
The remaining All-Stars on the Division II/III squad are Talek Williams (Lackawanna), Kevin Smith (Sullivan County), Alex Morales (Prince George's) and Joshua Winbush (Bristol).
Kirkwood's Bryan Petersen and Herkimer's Matt Lee have been chosen to coach the Division II/III team after earning this year's NJCAA Coach of the Year awards.
Petersen helped lead the 31-4 Eagles to an NJCAA Division II National Championship, their second in four seasons. Lee also helped his team to a title at Division III, finishing with an impressive overall record of 31-1.
