Athletics Announces "The Bayhawk Way," Scholar-Athlete Development Program

Fall River, MA -- The Bristol Community College Department of Athletics and Recreation officially launched the "The Bayhawk Way" Scholar-Athlete Development Program, Director of Athletics and Recreation, Derek Viveiros announced on Tuesday.
 
The Bayhawk Way is geared toward the holistic growth of Bristol student-athletes by supporting their academic development, their path to graduation, and life after Bristol. The Program has been initiated to support the overall development of all Bristol Student-Athletes. The program places an emphasis on the following:

  • Academic Excellence
  • Personal Development
  • Community Engagement
  • Equity, Diversity, & Inclusion.

"The Bayhawk Way will provide our student-athletes with the knowledge to be confident leaders at Bristol and prepare them for their future endeavors as student-athletes and professionals," said Bristol Director of Athletics, Derek Viveiros. "Over the years we have implemented a number of initiatives that support student development and we decided to create a development roadmap around our most impactful initiatives," Viveiros added.
 
"The Bayhawk Way allows for our scholar athletes to build Bawhawk GRIT which plays an essential part in their academic and professional success", stated Student-Athlete Academic Coordinator, Dr. Alyssa Frezza.

The department of athletics and recreation has several tactics in place to support student development efforts at Bristol Community College. The program activities include athletic competition, proactive advising, and faculty relationships are supported by an academic coordinator and coaching staff who link our student-athletes with the necessary services to experience success at Bristol.

 The Bayhawk Way consists of the following:

  • Student-Athlete Shared Document.
  • Mandatory Academic Coordinator Check-In – 3x each semester.
  • Course registration appointments.
  • Progress Report and detailed follow-up plans.
  • Student-Athlete Planning Series.
  • Study- Hall.
  • Athletic Experience.
  • Community Engagement.
