Fernandes Nets Pair to Lead Massasoit Women's Soccer Past Bristol, 2-0

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Freshman striker Kiana Fernandes (Taunton) netted a pair of goals and keeper Ailish Olmstead (Brockton) posted third consecutive shutout in as many games as the Massasoit women's soccer team defeated Bristol, 2-0, on Wednesday at Warrior Field.

Fernandes found the back of the net in the 11th minute of action, when she turned and rocketed a shot just outside the 18-yard box off a pass from Vanessa Dos Anjos (Raynham).

Massasoit (3-0, 3-0 Region 21) held the 1-0 lead into halftime as both the Warriors and Bayhawks hit a post in the opening stanza.

The Warriors kept clinging to a 1-0 lead until Fernandes struck again, this time from 30 yards out, to add a much needed insurance goal. Sarah Campbell (Abington) earned the assist on the goal.

Olmstead kept her clean sheet streak intact, making nine saves. The freshman has yet to allow a goal in 270 minutes of action this season.

Massasoit return to the pitch on Saturday hosting Holyoke CC at 1 PM.
