Bayhawks Hang on for 99-95 Win Over CCRI

Fall River, MA -- After Tuesday nights tough loss at Bunker Hill Community College, the #7 Bayhawks men's basketball team bounced back by beating a very talented Community Colleg of Rhode Island Knights team 99-95 Thursday night in Fall River.

Entering Thursday night's game the Knights and Bayhawks were both tied at 9-1 in the division and both suffering their only loss to Bunker Hill.

The first half was owned by Bristol. Smart decisions by Sophomore PG Marcus McCarthy (East Providence, RI) and the scoring of Zac Viega (Riverside, RI) with 13 points in the first half paved the way. The Bayhawks took a 56-42 lead at halftime.

The Bayhawks controlled most of the second half bringing the lead to as large as 18 points. However, the tables turned shortly after Marcus McCarthy got his fourth foul with 11:23 left to play. In the next 6 minutes the Knights outscored Bristol by 12 points bringing the score to its closest at 86-82 with 4:53 to play.

After McCarthy entered the game within the first 5 seconds he received a back door pass from Joshua Winbush ( Lake Charles, LA) for a score and the Bayhawks never looked back.

McCarthy led all Bristol players with 18 points but also added 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Winbush was especially tough adding 17 points 13 rebounds 4 assists and 5 blocked shots. Zacaree Viega finished with 16 points. Jose Mercado (Taunton, MA) added 15 points and 8 rebounds. Charles Martinez (Providence, RI) had 11 points and 3 assists. Finally both Stanley Freeman (New Bedford, MA) and Dontell Rodriguez (Providence,RI) added 10 points each.

The #7 ranked Bayhawks (10-1) play their final game of the semester tomorrow against Benjamin Franklin Institute of Technology at Simmons College Boston. Game starts at 6pm.
