Bayhawks Advance to Semi-finals with 72-68 Win over Roxbury

Taunton, MA -- Men's Basketball will advance to the Region XXI semi-final game after hanging on in a hard fought win over a talented Roxbury Community College team on Wednesday night. After losing the lead in the second half the Bayhawks were able to keep the Tigers close and regain the lead for the first round victory,72-68.

An exctiting game had an interesting start. Bristol was issued a class B technical foul for pre game dunking, which allowed Roxbury to shoot a free throw and take a 1-0 lead before the clock started and then awarded the ball to start the game. Then the Bayhawks took control for the first 25 minutes of the game before Roxbury made their run and took a 6 point lead. The Bayhawks defense forced a few late turnovers and they were able to convert on the offensive end including a key three point basket from Abou Jobe.

With 8 seconds on the clock and down 3 points Roxbury had posession of the ball and knocked down a three point basket, but a foul on the floor was called and the basket was not counted. The Bayhawks were able to secure the lead and the win.

Dion Hazard Jr led all scorers with 26 points, followed by Abou Jobe with 20 points with 11 coming from the free throw line. Tyler Nunnery added 10 points and a monster block in the first half on a Roxbury fastbreak.

The Bayhawks are scheduled to play a semi-final game on Friday evening at the #1 seed Community College of Rhode Island. With a potential snowstorm across the region, Region XXI will assess the forecast and may make a decsion on the tournament schedule this weekend. Please check back for more information.
