Matt Murphy and Beau Jacques Represent Bayhawks Well at Nationals

Bristol Community College Athletics would like to congratulate Matt Murphy and Beau Jacques on their proud representation of the college at the NJCAA division 3 national golf tournament in Chautauqua, NY last week. During the four rounds of the tournament, Murphy shot an 86, 85, 83 and 80, while Jacques shot an 87, 102, 79, and 91. The two athletes were the school's first athletic representatives in a national tournament.

Murphy and Jacques along with their coach Wayne Wood, drove over 8 hours to Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York to compete in the Division III National Tournament. There were 12 college teams and 22 individual colleges totaling 90 golfers competing in this 72 hole, 4 day tournament. Colleges from Minnesota, North Carolina, Indiana, Wisconsin, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Georgia and even more were present at this tournament.

Coach Wood stated that even though the weather didn't cooperate for most of the week, he was still impressed with the level of competition at the national tournament. Golfers from around the country were still shooting par or under even in the inclement weather, which included rain and strong winds.

Coach Wood also emphasized how proud he was of Murphy and Jacques, and how well they played under harsh weather and immense pressure of the national tournament. Coach Wood said he is "encouraged" by the success of these two young men and also the success of all the golfers the Bayhawks had participating this season.

Beau Jacques was quoted as saying "We could not have had the success we did this season without Coach Wood, and we all cannot thank him enough".
