2nd Half Surge Sends Women's Soccer Past Springfield Tech.

Fall River, MA -- After a slow start to Saturday afternoon's Region XXI match with Springfield Technical Community College, the Bayhawks came out strong in the second half to secure the win and improve to 5-2 on the season.

Both teams went to the break tied 0-0, but 8 minutes into the second half, Springfield's Olivia Meehan found the back of the net to put the visitor's up 1-0.  In the 65th minute of play the Bayhawks found the hot foot of Alyssa Tortra who locked the score at 1-1.  Two minutes later, Tortora scored her 16th goal of the season to give the Bayhawks the lead.  A lead that they would not give up for the remainder of the game.  Captain, Kassidy Raposo sealed the victory with their 3rd goal of the game.

Goalkeeper, Haley Demello had 4 saves on the day, including an outstanding stop on an open shot from Meehan that would have extended the Rams lead to 2-0.  Demello's outreached hand was able to deflect the ball off the post and a Bayhawk defender immediately cleared the ball.

Tortora's two goals keeps her as the top of Region XXI and tied for 6th nationally with 16 goals.

The Bayhawks are back in action next Thursday when they travel to Springfield Technical Community College.
