Massasoit Women’s Basketball Bests Bristol in Region 21 Semifinals, 84-56

BROCKTON, Mass. ---- Ty Hawkins poured in 28 points and Mataya Young added 22 as the nationally-ranked and top-seeded Massasoit women's basketball team held off a pesky Bristol Bayhawk squad, 84-56, on Saturday morning in the semifinals of the NJCAA Region 21 Tournament held at Massasoit.

The victory sends the Warriors to the Region 21 Championship, slated for 12 PM on Sunday, with a perfect record still intact at 23-0 overall.

Massasoit struggled out of the gate against Bristol, but held a 19-11 edge at the end of the first quarter.

Leading just 21-20 the early goings of the second, the Warriors closed out the stanza on a 21-6 run to lead 42-26 at the break.

Bristol kept hanging around, until an 11-2 spurt by Massasoit over the final 1:39, featuring three-straight baskets by Shardajah Collins put the Warriors up 67-45 through three complete.

In the fourth, Massasoit, which played the final 6:49 with only four players on the court, held of the Bayhawks to advance to the finals for the second straight season.

Joining Hawkins and Young in double figures was Aliza Bell with 13 points and Collins added 11 in the victory.

Bristol (15-9) received a game-high 35 points form Katera James.
