Women's Basketball Defeats Vaughn, 82-57

Fall River, MA -- Women's basketball comes out on top in their home opener on Saturday night at LaFrance Gymnasium.  The Bayhawks defeated non-region opponent, Vaughn College of Aeronautics and Technology, 82-57 to improve their record to 1-1 on the season.

The Bayhawks jumped out to a quick lead after knocking down three 3 point baskets in the first quarter giving them a 25-11 lead after the fisrt quarter.  The offense did not end there as they went into halftime with 47-26 lead.  The Bayhawks remained in control for much of the second half and secured their first win of the season.

Freshman, Jayda Fortin led all scorers with 42 points including 4 assists and 7 steals.  Sophomore, Katera James dropped 29 points including five 3 point baskets.

First year Head Coach, Jay Hanley picks up his first college head coaching victory with the women's basketball's win on Saturday night.  Both the men's and women's basketball teams will head to Roxbury Community College on Tuesday night.
