Bayhawks Come Up Short Against DII Rhode Island

Fall River, MA -- After jumping out to a fast start, Bayhawks Women's Basketball comes up short in last night's contest with the Community College of Rhode Island, 78-71.

Katera James knocked down a three point shot seconds into the game which started an offensived suge for the Bayhawks.  Rhode Island was able to chip away and trailed by just 4 points at the end of the first quarter.  The Bayhawks were held to just 10 points in the second quarter and Rhode Island took a 36-32 lead into halftime.  The Bayhawks trailed 61-51 heading into the fourth quarter and were able to cut the Knight's lead down to five.

Bayhawks point guard, Atiya Rivera fouled out of the game with two minutes left to play after the official mistakenly identified her as the Bayhawks player charged with a blocking foul.  Rhode Island's Janessa Perry drove to the basket colliding with Bristol's Abbie Hurley who was unable to establish her position which caused the official to stop play and call the foul.  Unfortunately, for the Bayhawks the foul was issued to Atiya Rivera who already had four fouls.

Rhode Island was able to maintain the lead in the final minutes of play and get the 78-71 win over Bristol.  The Bayhawks are now 8-4 overall and 4-3 in league play.

Jayda Fortin continues her offensive ways leading all scorers with 28 points, Katera James 15 points, and Atiya Rivera 12 points.  Freshman forward, Abbie Hurley had a double-double scoring 14 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.

The Bayhawks are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they host Hampshire College at the Epilepsy Awareness Game at 1:00 PM.
