BAYHAWKS CAPTURE FIRST EVER REGION 21 CHAMPIONSHIP

The Bristol Women's Soccer Team completed a historic 2022 season with a 4-0 victory at home against Holyoke to capture the Region 21 Championship.

This is the first trip to the NJCAA National Tournament for any Bristol Athletics Women's team.  The team finished the season with an overall record of 11-4-0.

The top seeded Bayhawks defeated #4 seed Springfield Tech on Saturday in the semi-finals 15-2.

On Sunday, the Bayhawks defeated #2 Holyoke for the Region 21 championship. Goals were scored by Freshmen Kim Oliveira and Bella Prisco.

This is the 2nd straight season the Bayhawks have advanced to the Region 21 playoffs under Coach Jason Tassinari.  In 2019, Coach Tassinari's first season at Bristol, the Bayhawks won the regular season championship, but lost at Holyoke in penalty kicks in the finals.  In 2021, the Bayhawks once again lost to Holyoke in the semi-finals.

The Bayhawks will now rest up and prepare for the NJCAA National Tournament which begins on November 9th at Herkimer County Community College in New York.

"This team truly earned this championship", says Coach Taz.  "they are a hardworking, smart, dedicated group of young women on and off the field.  They really deserve this.   It's been an unusual season with many rescheduled games and cancelations, but to their credit, they prepared well and never allowed the strange schedule to affect them.  Obviously I'm happy and excited for the entire program and all the players on the team, but I'm especially happy for my assistant coaches (Mike Pieroni, Emily Quinn and Breanna Borges), as well as my 7 outstanding sophomores (Emily, Jillian, Joanna, Katie, Saige, Maylee, Nicole).  All successful programs have solid leadership, and my 2 captains Jillian Swass and Jenna Cambria were absolutely outstanding from the first day of preseason in August.  They modeled the way for their teammates with passion and a work-rate that was second to none. We've come so close in the past…it's nice to finally break the door down after knocking on it the past 3 years."
